今天我们对着什么书写?书写通过何种媒介传递?“历史书法”在失去其使用语境后,逐渐沦为文化残骸(“渣渣”),是否还有机会死里逃生,甚至进化出某种异形?
2020年开始,艺术家吴非将目光落在了书法写作中笔画之间的衔接动作上,将书写行为中不可见的、非语义的,甚至记忆都选择略过的部分(笔势)从虚空中提炼出来,反转为书写对象本身。艺术家将其称为“空书”,并形成系列创作持续至今,从最初的单字,到抄录名人手札,到书写艺术家私人信件,再到日常生活中的自言自语,原本存在于无的“空书”逐渐成为艺术家无中生有的借口和传递生命体验的媒介。
在南京艺术学院美术馆呈现的吴非个展“渣渣灰”中,在过往“空书”系列中涌动的抒情冲动暂时沉寂,转而以更加诉诸快意的方式回应现实。作为南京艺术学院美术馆“讯息即媒介”系列项目的一部分,“空书”近乎讯息和媒介的反面,就像吴非将书法的可见部分隐去,而以原本不可见的动作、情绪、决断,逐渐(反过来地)将书法(狭义的信息)抽象化为一种介乎内容与形式、意义与知觉其间的媒介。然而,从具体的信息中挣扎出来,从一个旁观者的角度去审视作为中介的信息,在某种程度上反而更加合理。
本次展览的书写对象之一是展厅。“空书”在此成为“空间之书”或“空中书法”,即“渣渣灰”所构造的特别的、临时的书法性(建筑)空间,空书的章法、经营、形势将依托展厅中的各类基础设施及其贱弃物(abjection)的装修与调度展开,以此鼓动观众以肉躯参与其中。除此之外,艺术家以戏谑的方式重访南京历史与现实中的书法讯息,并将过往作品嵌入不同时空缝隙,以此实现身心畅游。
What does it mean to write today, and by what means does writing circulate? Once severed from its original context, “historical calligraphy” risks collapsing into little more than cultural detritus. Yet might such fragments still be reanimated—or even evolve into an altogether alien morphology?
Since 2020, artist Wu Fei has directed his attention to the connective gestures between strokes—the transitional movements that remain non-semantic, invisible, and often edited out of memory. Extracted from absence, these residual traces are inverted into the very subject of writing itself. Wu names this practice “Empty Writing” (空书). Over time, the series has unfolded from single characters to transcriptions of celebrated manuscripts, to the rewriting of private correspondence, and finally to the murmurs of everyday speech. What once occupied the void gradually assumes form, becoming at once a pretext and a medium through which lived experience is transmitted.
In “Residue Grey,” Wu Fei’s solo exhibition at the Art Museum of Nanjing University of the Arts, the lyrical currents that animated Empty Writing subside, replaced by a more immediate and visceral response to the present. Situated within the museum’s program “Message as Medium,” Wu’s practice appears almost as its inversion: where the visible inscription of calligraphy is withdrawn, it is the unseen—the gesture, the hesitation, the emotional charge—that comes to the fore. Calligraphy, in its conventional sense as information, is abstracted into a mediating space suspended between content and form, between signification and perception.
Paradoxically, by breaking free from the strictures of information and re-encountering it as mediation from a distance, one might discover a stance that feels, in its estrangement, all the more coherent.

艺术家简介

吴非(b.1987)出生于中国浙江,2010年本科毕业于中国美术学院美术教育系,2016~2018年就读于中国美术学院跨媒体学院,现生活工作于杭州。吴非的创作根植于书写方式与抽象绘画之间关系的探讨,区别于空乏的形式构成与样式,艺术家从早期对于“书写”的逻辑、视觉、阐释等功能的解构,逐渐寻求一种完整的情感状态,从“书写(单字)”进入“书信”的切身体悟,将书写、绘画化为痕迹来回应创作之初的真实诉求。再从架上“书信”进入到日常生活中的“自语”。近年来通过在地性实践近年来通过在地性实践,吴非试图打破艺术与日常的边界,研究特定场域,地域生态作为为创作媒介,将在地性过程作为切身真实诉求的核心探索。
Wu Fei (b. 1987) was born in Zhejiang, China. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts Education from the China Academy of Fine Arts in 2010. From 2016 to 2018, she studied at the Cross-Media College of the China Academy of Fine Arts. Currently, Wu Fei lives and works in Hangzhou. Her creations are rooted in exploring the relationship between writing techniques and abstract painting, distinguishing herself from mere forms and styles. The artist began by deconstructing the logical, visual, and interpretative functions of "writing" from an early stage, gradually seeking a complete emotional state. This journey led her from "writing (individual characters)" to a profound understanding of "letters," transforming writing and painting into traces that respond to the authentic needs of her initial creative impulses. More recently, through localized practices, Wu Fei has attempted to break down the boundaries between art and daily life, investigating specific locales and regional ecosystems as mediums for her work, with the process of localization serving as the core exploration of her genuine artistic intentions.
策展人简介

刘林,江苏阜宁人,写作者、策展人,目前生活和工作在上海。他长期关注地理、空间及建筑相关话题,并试图通过与不同领域创作者合作的方式讨论“共同工作”的问题。2013 年至2021 年期间,他曾在四方当代美术馆从事策展工作。在此期间,他发起实施名为“地形学”(2015-2019)的长期在地研究/艺术项目。他将写作与策划视为行动方式,尝试在不同的写作与策划领域进行实践,试图以写作(装置)与展览(临时建筑)参与生活现场。
Liu Lin is a writer and curator, currently living and working in Shanghai. In recent years, his practice has primarily focused on architecture, place, and space, attempting to assemble "textual installations" through writing and constructing "temporary architecture" within specific exhibition contexts.
